Payment & Refund Terms

You pay before a lesson exists. Your teacher is paid lesson by lesson, as each one is confirmed.

Paying for lessons

Every lesson on Coursity is paid for in advance. A single lesson is paid for at the moment you book it; a package is paid for in full when you buy it. Nothing is scheduled, and no credit is issued, until the payment has been confirmed by the payment provider.

Prices are shown in US dollars and are the teacher's own. The price and any package discount are fixed at the moment of purchase — a teacher raising their rate afterwards does not change what you already bought.

  • A package is a number of lesson credits with one teacher, at one format and duration.
  • Each booking spends one credit. You are never charged again after buying the package.
  • A package's credits are for the teacher you bought them from and cannot be moved to another teacher.

How payments are taken

Payments are processed by our payment provider. Coursity never receives or stores your card number or wallet credentials — those are handled entirely on the provider's side.

A payment can settle immediately or after a step you complete on the provider's own screen. Until it settles, your order is shown as pending and no lesson or credit is active. If it fails, nothing is charged and nothing is booked.

Coursity's commission

Coursity retains a platform commission of 20% of each confirmed lesson. The teacher receives the remaining 80%. The commission is taken from the gross amount, so a package discount reduces both shares proportionally.

The rate applied to a lesson is the rate in force when that lesson was taught, and it is recorded on the lesson. A future change to the platform rate does not restate lessons already delivered.

Confirming a lesson

After a lesson you are asked to confirm that it happened. Confirming is what releases the teacher's share; until then the money is held.

If you do not confirm, and there is no dispute, cancellation or pending reschedule against that lesson, Coursity settles it automatically once a grace period has passed and the lesson is shown as attended or completed. This exists so a teacher who delivered a lesson is not left waiting indefinitely — it is not a waiver of your right to report a problem.

  • Report an issue instead of confirming if something went wrong. The money is held for review rather than released.
  • Confirming is idempotent: pressing it twice cannot pay a teacher twice.

Refunds

Whether a lesson is refundable is decided by the Cancellation & Rescheduling Policy, which sets out the two-hour boundary and who bears the cost on each side of it.

Where a refund is due it is returned as a lesson credit to the package it came from by default, because that is what you bought. A refund to the original payment method may be requested through support and is subject to the payment provider's own limits.

  • Unused package credits do not expire on their own.
  • A lesson your teacher cancels always returns its credit in full.
  • A free trial has no monetary value and is not refundable.

Disputes

If you report an issue with a lesson, that lesson's payment is held and reviewed by Coursity. We may ask both sides for their account of what happened, and we look at what the platform itself recorded — whether the classroom was entered, and by whom.

Please raise a problem with us before disputing a charge with your bank or wallet provider. A chargeback opened before we have had a chance to look may result in the account being suspended while it is resolved.

Test payments

While the live payment rail is being connected, some environments run checkout on a stand-in provider. Where that is the case the platform labels the amount as a test on every screen it appears on, and no real money moves. A test payment is never described as settled.
